Alice, a waitress working in a restaurant managed by a flirtatious and diminutive proprietor (Barney Hellum). The proprietor’s wife is a formidable, "lion-taming" woman who is intensely jealous. When the proprietor lures Alice into an "imprudent date" at the Lonesome Inn under the guise of offering her a promotion his suspicious wife and Eddie (Eddie Quillan), a busboy who is Alice's actual boyfriend, track them down. A chaotic confrontation ensues, leading to a "race for life" as the husband attempts to escape his wife’s wrath. The film concludes with Alice and Eddie successfully escaping together, while the husband and wife are seen in silhouette engaged in a physical brawl.

His performance is a disaster; he is pelted with vegetables by the audience, ruining a dress suit lent to him by Papa Levy. Realizing Eddie's foolishness, Kitty turns her romantic interests toward Danny (Danny O'Shea), a handsome New York police officer and "true son of Erin".
Irma is waiting for her escort to take her to a party when she falls asleep and has the most terrible dream. She dreams that she is a poor little girl in the country and has to do all the chores. She gets into all kinds of trouble helping the other children and finally falls in the brook. But just as she is bewailing her fate her mother wakes her and says that Bennie has come to take her to the party. The dream is over and Irma is glad that it was only a dream.

Arriving home papa puts a veto on the prospective call of the impecunious young lawyers, as he wants a titled man for a son-in-law. One evening papa goes to the club, and is introduced to Lord Chester, and asks his lordship to call. While papa is thus being entertained, Eddy has called and is enjoying a tête-à-tête with Louise. Corinne spies Lee and introduces him to the butler and the cook and they all have a good time. The following day his Lordship calls, Louise however, has no use for titled personages with Eddy outside honking his auto horn.

She is welcomed by all, and everything goes along merrily until one day, when they try to initiate Betty into one of their societies by blindfolding her and dropping cold, wet macaroni through her fingers. It feels so much like snakes that she dashes from the room. From now on she is ostracized. She decides to leave. While packing her trunk. She discovers a burglar climbing into a room where the other girls are having a "feed," to which she has not been invited. All the girls scream and run away. Betty, trusting to her lariat, enters the room, captures the burglar, and is thereby made a friend of all.

Peter Pep, whose middle name is Speed with a capital S, gets the job thanks to his galvanizing presence. He puts pep into everything and everyone, even into Dolly's heart and they fall in love. Dolly makes a spirited stand for her father, but Peter wins out. In celebration Peter Pep marries Dolly, and they are off on their honeymoon in a cloud of dust.
