A former member, who fears retaliation from the group, gives a statement, as does Vogel, who discusses the organization's objectives. One of the leaders explains why their website contains bomb-making instructions and why it includes search keywords commonly used by children. According to them, once the bomb is made, the creator will use it to blow up their own family members, creating chaos. They believe that families must be destroyed in order to achieve individual freedom. Another member promotes LSD as the source of happiness, with the goal of distributing synthetic LSD through the water supply. They claim that laboratories will soon be established where chemists and doctors will manufacture the substance, arguing that as many people as possible need to be awakened. Well, the filmmakers are also contributing to this effort.

Excess Will Save Us

A young filmmaker returns to the village where she was born – a hamlet in the north of France – to investigate a strange story about a terrorist threat. She starts with members of her own family, and doesn’t have to go much further. The misunderstanding – as it turns out to be – shows above all how alarmist news items and political machinations in the cities can take on a life of their own, deep in the hinterland.

The story is told in voiceover by his childhood friend, neighbor, and the mother of his future child, Clementine, who is white. The city is Marseilles as in the previous film, symbolic with its churches, prisons and ruins. Except in this film, director Robert Guediguian also ventures outside, taking the story to Sarajevo; two different cities, one devastated by war, the other by a bad economy and unemployment. A la Place du coeur won a Special Jury Prize at the 1998 San Sebastian Film Festival and was also shown at the 1998 Toronto Film Festival and the 1998 Montreal Film Festival.
