Life is by no means easy for eight-year-old Dominik from the Berlin district of Hellersdorf. Living with his younger brother and sister and his single mother, he finds himself constantly torn between his sense of responsibility ty to the family and his own desires as he struggles to make his own life. This documentary portrait of Dominik accompanies him during the ups and downs of his daily life.
They sew our clothes, tan leather for shoes and bags. Twelve hours of work, every day. Despite this, the people in the supplier countries are often desperately poor. How does this poverty come about? Manfred Karremann explores this question using the example of Bangladesh, where much of what we use every day is produced. Bangladesh is the second largest textile producer in the world after China. The main reason for the poverty: goods are produced incredibly cheaply in Bangladesh. About nine cents an hour is paid for the dangerous work in a tannery. The seamstresses in the textile factories get a little more. Just enough to survive. Because that's what it's all about for the men, women and children who do any job, for any wage.

Under its auspices, Ebrahim Golestan directed A FIRE (1961), a highly visual treatment of a seventy-day oil well fire in the Khuzestan region of southwestern Iran. This film was edited by the Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad and won two awards at the Venice Film Festival in 1961.

This documentary reveals the most violent part of the most violent city (Medellin) of the most violent country (Colombia) in the world. For around 75 minutes, different people from Medellin explain how difficult it is to live and survive in a city where violence, weapons, killing is common. Everyday, someone you know may die or get wounded by one of the different armed factions that struggle throughout the country and in the cities to take control over the population, drug cartel, politics, etc... sometimes for no reasons at all but fun.

This short film walks the viewer through art directors' responsibilities and the demands on their talents. They read a script carefully and design a set to capture the time and place, the social strata, and the mood. They must be scholars of the history of architecture, furnishings, and fashion. They choose the colors on a set in anticipation of the lighting and the mood. Their work also sets styles, from Art Deco in the 20's to 30s modernism. Then it's on to the next project.
