The Gillian Hills Trilogy

"The Gillian Hills Trilogy" is a three-part project celebrating the screen presence of Gillia Hills in three of her most widely seen but unrecognized roles A Clockwork Orange, Blow-Up, and Beat Girl. In her peripheral roles in Kubrick’s and Antonioni’s films—which became iconic moments for the films she is invisible in plain sight, barely even credited. In Edmond T. Gréville’s lurid Beat Girl, she plays the title rôle and ironically enjoys not only name recognition but vastly greater agency.

The film tells the story of James Morrison’s early years, painting the tenements of Glasgow, through to his dramatic encounter with a polar bear while painting melting icebergs in North West Greenland. As the artist struggles with imposing blindness, the film follows James, as he prepares for what turned out to be his last ever public exhibition at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh in January 2020.

Artist and filmmaker Philippe Mora (Mad Dog Morgan; The Howling II; Swastika) is producing a graphic novel about his late father, Georges, widely known in Melbourne as a beloved contemporary art patron and owner of bohemian eateries Mirka Café, Café Balzac and the Tolarno Restaurant and Galleries. Less known, however, is Georges' astonishing history as part of the French resistance during World War II, his friendship with renowned mime Marcel Marceau (Philippe's godfather), and how together they saved thousands of Jewish lives with a fiendishly simple trick involving baguettes and mayonnaise.
