SMALL SELKIE follows Skye, a young girl with a vivid imagination who yearns to become a mermaid. Against the backdrop of the loss of her mother, Skye finds solace by the sea. While collecting shells on the beach, she encounters a trapped “selkie” entangled in plastic pollution, which sparks a deep determination within her to protect the ocean from this harm. Despite her father’s initial disapproval of her hoarding the collected plastic, Skye transforms it into magnificent sea creatures.

The Latest Sun Is Sinking Fast

Bass takes over the upstairs Kanter-McCormick Gallery at the Art Center, expanding the territory of her gothic world in a new work The Latest Sun is Sinking Fast, an immersive, multi-channel installation incorporating 16mm film/video, sound, architecture, and featuring performances by Sarah Stambaugh, Bryan Saner, and Matthew Goulish. The solo exhibition features a spatial narrative installation that delves, through movement, texture, sound, and gesture, into the psychology of a recurring figure in Bass' previous films; while also introducing two new characters, blending the past into the present. André's Eyes is an experimental docudrama in which the actual family members themselves participate in the recreation of their own story. Set in a small village in the Portuguese countryside, the film follows the struggle of a divorced father to keep his family together after his youngest son is taken away from them and placed in a foster family.

The Glacier Fox

Director Koreyoshi Kurahara chronicles a year in the lives of Flep and Leila, two foxes living in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, where the freezing winters are long and the mild summers short. After Flep defeats another male fox to become Leila's lifelong partner, they mate and raise a litter of five kits. With their family complete, the group must contend with human interference in their habitat, such as chicken farms and snowmobiles, and struggle against the debilitating cold of winter. The animals experience both triumph and tragedy, as the law of this harsh land proves – only the strong survive.

The Virtues of Solitude

In the future, a second great flood covers most of the known world. Country borders collapse and language barrier disappear.
